Language Coaching & Experiential language learning

Language Coaching is a method of training a language to a person that is immediately useful within a particular society & culture, because “if you don’t use it, you lose it!”.

Language Coaching takes a holistic approach, which encompasses body language, pronunciation, intonation, and fluency, and places effective communication & self-expression at its forefront.

Believing that a language is living and that the everyday person is the best example thereof, language coaching focuses on commonly-used sentences and phrases, including idioms and expressions, so that students can understand what people say as they seek to participate in society, navigate the culture, and connect with people who ultimately become their teacher.

The more a student can feel integrated into society, the more the student will feel they had a profound experience that will change his or her life, and feel confident in making his or her connections which can last a lifetime.

By practising communication directly with native speakers, students can build a network around themselves in which they can speak English every day. This is truly how language learning occurs and is how every human has learned his or her first language.

Recognizing that each person is different and that there is no one way to navigate a culture & society, Language Coaching engages students to create their own goals and push themselves to get to where they want to be. As such, a Language Coach is in-tune with what makes each student unique and what they want to achieve in their language-learning journey.

In short, learning a language is like learning a sport. It requires constant & immediate correction as well as genuine support from a coach who pushes you to practise over and over again until you can do it effortlessly without thinking. Our goal is that after our intensive program, you no longer need us and have all of the tools you need to become a lifelong language learner.

ANESH DAYA

Founder & President

Anesh is a language-lover who loves the outdoors, meeting new people, and learning new things. Taking these traits with his background in multimedia, Tennis Coaching, and passion for travelling, he started his English teaching career when he was only 21 years old.

Since then, Anesh has been teaching, managing, and developing English as a second language (ESL) programs around the world. After years of experience working at a traditional ESL school, he realized that the current model, which stresses the importance of grammar and treats each student as relatively the same, isn’t an effective way to help students become confident communicators and active language learners.

In 2009, Anesh created On the Spot Language (OSL), an innovative experiential English language immersion program, which he developed to address the needs of his students, so that they can effectively use their English in real-life situations, which was exactly his approach when learning Mandarin when he has in Taiwan.

Over the years Anesh has taken his expertise in language coaching and has presented at both TESL Toronto and TESL Ontario based on classes he built. In 2017, knowing the language barriers that newcomers (Syrian Refugees) were facing and also the struggles his parents faced when immigrating to Canada in 1979, he piloted a program which focused specifically on the language needs of a newcomer in Canada. Anesh pitched and won first prize for his OSL Program at Jusoor’s Global Conference. Also in 2017, students voted On the Spot Language as “BEST ESL Program in Toronto”.

More recently, Anesh co-hosted and presented at the 2018 Disruptive Education Conference, where he shared is experience, challenges, and successes working as an entrepreneur and has a mission to further transform the language education industry by demonstrating the effectiveness of Language Coaching and experiential learning as an alternative to the methods currently being used around the globe.
